• In September 2018, the number of poor people (pop
with monthly per capita expenditure below Line
Poverty) in West Sumatra reached 353.24 thousand people (6.55
percent), decreased by 3.89 thousand people compared with
conditions in March 2018 which amounted to 357.13 thousand people (6.65 percent).
• Percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2018
of 4.86 percent rose to 4.99 percent in September
2018. Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people in rural areas
in March 2018 it was 8.07 percent, down to 7.90 percent
in September 2018.
• During the period March 2018 - September 2018, population
poverty in urban areas increased by 10.74 thousand people (from
114.84 thousand people in March 2018 to 125.58 thousand people
in September 2018), while in rural areas it fell
as many as 14.63 thousand people (from 242.29 thousand people in March
2018 to 227.66 thousand people in September 2018).
• The role of food commodities on the Poverty Line is far
greater than the role of non-food commodities.
Food Poverty Line Contribution to Poverty Line
in September 2018 it was recorded at 76.03 percent.
• Three types of food commodities have the greatest influence
to the Poverty Line value are rice, filter clove cigarettes,
beef (in urban areas) and rice, filtered clove cigarettes, chilies
red (in rural areas). Meanwhile, five commodities are not food
the most dominant are the costs of housing, electricity, petrol,
education and toiletries.
